VR For Attraction Design

This project was part of my dissertation in my honours year of University. The question I was exploring in my final year was how Virtual Reality can be utilised in the design process for themed attractions. I was focusing on attractions for theme parks so I made a roller coaster in Virtual Reality based off the story of Nutcracker Ballet, where guests were being invited to take a tour of the SugarPlum Kingdom.

The project aimed to show that Virtual Reality could be a useful tool in gaining feedback for coasters during the design process by allowing groups to experience a pre visualisation version of the coaster in VR before the ride is built allowing for adjustments to be made before construction.

After creating the VR experience in Unreal Engine a focus group was held with experienced theme park guests. Each guest experience the sequence in VR and filled in a questionnaire and took part in a group discussion about their opinions on both the VR experience and the testing method.
